Whatever the purpose of the sites you work on, their
success depends on visitors doing something. We want our
visitors to sign up, or buy, or donate, or download, or
apply, or post opinions, or pick up the phone and call
us. One way or another if we are to judge our sites as
being successful, they have to result in some kind of
action on the reader’s part.
Web designers have as little as 50 milliseconds to capture
the interest of potential customers. Through the halo
effect, first impressions can influence subsequent judgments
of website credibility and buying decisions.
Flashy? Trashy? Hip and sassy? Fancy or minimalist? Artsy
or straight-to-business? Colourful or muted? Fun or no-nonsense?
Audio? Video? Information-rich or coyly uninformative?
Deciding what kind of Web site your business should have
can be tough, so we offer some advice on making decisions-and
a great site.

| Mar 17, 2004 --> S.I.
Launches New Company Website
Salamander Interactive, the Vancouver, BC, Canada digital
design studio is pleased to announce the launch of version
3 of its company
website. Based on the idea of "sleek and concise
design" S.I. showcases a sleek and concise approach
to website design. S.I. believes this type of interface
and content design is crucial for today's business climate.
Over-designed websites with lavish graphics and animation
may be artistically pleasing but they are generally poor
business communication tools. People today want quick
and easy access to the information they seek. A website
must be:
professional -- concise, coherent and well-formatted
content
utilitarian -- clean layout with readily accessible
and understandable navigation
artistic -- reflect client style and aesthetics
These basic website attributes must be blended and balanced
to create a successful online presence.
